Key Insights
With DRIP enabled, your $153,047.16 in dividends is reinvested and compounds alongside price growth — dividends now account for a meaningful share of your final $437,710.90 balance. Disabling DRIP would redirect that income to cash and noticeably slow compounding.
Your combined growth outlook (price 7.00% + dividend growth 6.00%) exceeds 12% — aggressive and above long-term market averages. Sustainable for high-quality growth compounds, but stress-test with a 4%–6% scenario to avoid over-optimistic projections.
Your projected final-year dividend income is $31,741.80/year — a substantial income stream that could meaningfully supplement salary or retirement cash flow. At a 4% withdrawal rate this is equivalent to a $793,545.00 portfolio.
Your 3.50% dividend yield is in the healthy moderate range — common for dividend growth stocks and balanced ETFs. This balances current income with room for payout increases, which typically drives better long-term total returns than chasing the highest yield.
A moderate yield is consistent with a broadly diversified portfolio (index funds or dividend-growth ETFs). This lowers the risk of dividend cuts and provides steadier income than concentrating in the highest-yielding names. Reinvest dividends and rebalance annually to keep risk in check.

Guide

How to Use This Calculator

  1. 1Enter your initial investment — the lump sum you're starting with today.
  2. 2Set your monthly contribution. Even $100–$500/month dramatically boosts long-term dividend income.
  3. 3Adjust the dividend yield. Use 1.5%–2% for broad index funds, 3%–4% for dividend-focused ETFs, 4%–6% for REITs and utilities.
  4. 4Set the dividend growth rate — how fast the company raises its dividend annually. 5%–8% is typical for quality dividend growers.
  5. 5Set the price growth rate — expected annual share price appreciation. 5%–7% aligns with long-term market averages.
  6. 6Choose your investment horizon. Longer horizons (15+ years) let DRIP compounding reach its full potential.
  7. 7Toggle DRIP on to reinvest dividends (recommended for growth) or off to receive them as cash income.
  8. 8Review the final balance, total dividends, and projected annual income in the result panel.
  9. 9Use the AI insights to assess your yield level, DRIP benefit, growth outlook, and diversification.
Formula

How It's Calculated

Dividend income (year t):

  Income_t = Balance_{t-1} × Yield_t

  where Yield_t = Yield_0 × (1 + dividendGrowthRate)^t

Balance with DRIP (monthly simulation):

  For each month m:
    1. Dividend = Balance × (Yield_m / 12)
    2. If DRIP: Balance += Dividend (reinvest)
    3. Balance += MonthlyContribution
    4. Balance *= (1 + priceGrowthRate / 12) (price appreciation)

Total return = (FinalBalance / TotalContributions) − 1

Yield on cost = FinalAnnualDividendIncome / TotalContributions

Example: $25,000 initial + $500/month, 3.5% yield, 6% dividend growth,
7% price growth, 15 years, DRIP enabled:
- Total contributions = $25,000 + $500 × 12 × 15 = $115,000
- Final balance ≈ $285,000+ (price growth + reinvested dividends compound)
- Cumulative dividends ≈ $40,000+
- Final-year dividend income ≈ $6,000+/year
